Neighborhoods.com

Location, Location, Location.

It’s the most iconic phrase used in real estate and is always applied to the location of the home.

Neighborhoods.com offers a unique approach to real estate: the website looks beyond location and provides detailed, grassroots-level information to showcase what it would be like to live in the neighborhood. With the help of our neighborhood experts, you can then find your perfect home and live your best life.

Building a New Real Estate Experience

Extensive A/B testing was conducted to iterate on the site constantly. The website initially launched with a hero image of a row of perfect homes. Testing a hero image with a family increased search bar engagement by over 30% vs the control.

As the founding designer, my role was to conduct research, architect, wireframe, create a brand, design the site, and work with our stakeholders and engineers to launch the MVP of Neighborhoods.com in five months.

Over the 4.5 years I spent at neighborhoods.com, I led all aspects of design in branding, product, and marketing, managed our product roadmaps, and, along with other members of the leadership team, helped build a team culture of trust and inclusivity.

I added product designers, marketing designers, and researchers to my team. Through weekly 1:1s, individual growth plans, and design critiques, I mentored my team and found excitement in their accomplishments.

Role: Head of Design & Product, leading Discovery, Wireframes, Strategy, A/B Testing, User Testing, and User Interviews.

0 → 1

The site has evolved through usability sessions, user surveys, A/B testing, and internal initiatives to bring to the market what other real estate sites do not — find your neighborhood and then find your home.

Sketching quickly captures spontaneous ideas that arrive from reviewing research. I do believe that analog creation aids in working through ideas in a low-friction way that keeps the focus on the problem, not getting hung up on pixel-perfection paralysis.

Site Design & Testing

We conduct a robust A/B testing program that focuses on reducing user friction, ensuring our visitors have the best possible experience. Some experiments are visually minor but have a high impact; others are larger in scale. An example is the evolution of the top of the property pages, where each iteration built upon the previous learnings to provide visitors with what they want.

The winning variation increased agent contact CVR by 13%.

Building the In-depth neighborhood & city details

Each of our custom pages is designed to showcase the details of the neighborhood being viewed, whether suburban or urban. To populate the neighborhood content, we embarked on an extraordinary mission to collaborate with local writers and photographers to create content that our team transformed into detailed neighborhood overviews. Visitors could leave neighborhood reviews and view school information. Yelp! listings were integrated into our map to provide further granular neighborhood details along with photo galleries, offering an in-depth look at the area.
